Donna Lynn Caskey "The Love Still Shows" Review

When I first opened the envelope to check out this release I was surprised and thankful to receive a awesome banjo pen. Thanks! "The Love Still Shows" is a rootsy bluegrass album by Donna Lynn Caskey. The music on this album is beautiful. The recording and production of this album is spectacular. As a musician myself it is hard to find a studio engineer that can dial in a good acoustic  balance. Ed Tree at The Treehouse studio in San Gabriel , CA did a great job. Donna's lyrics are original and unique. They fit with her banjo playing like puzzle pieces, just right. I really enjoyed "The Book" and "I am Willing/Down By the River Side." This is a awesome banjo album. I def recommend everyone check this out. Get your copy here www.donnalynncaskey.com.

"I Hold Gravity" by Gerry Spehar Review

This album is very upbeat and positive. I love the male/female vocals on this album. This album screams roots and folk! If you like the lap steel, dobro and slide guitar as much as I do you will love this album. I love the art on the cover and back. Looks like hand paintings of the artists on the record. This album has a definite groovin, chill mellow vibe. My favorite songs on the album are Muleshoe Mules, I Hold Gravity, Be Nemanic and Mr. & Mrs. Jones. Gerry Spehar is Releasing 'I Hold Gravity' after 30 year hiatus with guests I See Hawks in LA and Gabe Witcher. This album releases on July 28th, but you can purchase it in advance from Gerry's website:         https://www.gerryspehar.com/

The Crossing Kind "Something Greater" CD Review

Very uplifting, I love the male and female vocals. Reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel even tho they are not male and female lol. This is a great Christian folk rock album. This CD appeals to both Christian and non-Christian listeners. I think thats the goal. To get the message out there which I can say they are definateley accomplishing with this one. I give the recording and production a A+. The acoustic guitar will have you stomping your foot from the get go. Super Positive vibes on this one! Love the clapping in "Love Will Lead You Home" and "Sing Over Me." I love the cover, they are standing in front of huge mountains. Kind of like two small humans facing the Great Creator or great creations of God. Love the banjo in "Where I wanna Be." This is all around a great folk rock album. Please check it out here.

John Haesemeyer "Maybe If I Try" Review

This album has a super chill laid back vibe. Great vocals, music and lyrics. John's vocals kind of remind me of Frank Sinatra. The lyrics are very deep and sentimental, almost a melancholy feel. John expresses deep love in this album. I give the recording and production a A+. If you like mellow folk tunes, this album is for you. Check it out here.

Dan McNay "On the Street" Album Review

Dan's banjo sounds like a bubbly cold brook coming down a mountain on a hot summer day. Very refreshing. Love his music. Dan's vocals are crisp, clear and soothing to the ear. Picture a lone cowboy about to bed down for the night, sitting by his campfire singing his reminicent songs to his pony. I give this album a A+ in recording, production, sound and entertainment. Some of the songs I love on this album are "Little Sister," "Making Bubbles," and "Where are You Going." Love the female vocals in "Making Bubbles." I could see some of Dan's songs ending up in a Western movie. Great album Dan! You can purchase or listen to this album here.

Review for Ben Bostick's self-titled debut LP. Release date 7/7/17.

Alright everyone hows it going?! Today I listened to Ben Bostick's new self-titled debut LP. This LP had my foot tapping from song one which is a song called "Independence Day Eve" and is a great song. I can feel the love in this album;) The lyrics and music are great on this album. "Coast of Mexico" makes you wonder if Bostick ever tripped off of peyote. Lyrics like "with a button of peyote or a little bit of Mexican blow," were you partying Ben or were you partying;) The song rocks! I especially love the clapping in "After the Rain." Something about clapping that brings you back to the old timey music. "Paper Football" has lyrics that will touch your heart. I love the harmonica in "Sweet Thursday" and how Ben introduces distortion in "Erin is Blue." The cover of the album is very artistic showing just the contour of Ben's face. Super unique. Please visit https://www.benbostick.com  for more info, tour dates and music.
Get this album July 7, 2017 when it comes out!

"The Blues Non Est Mortuum" by Darren Deicide LP Review

Deicide takes the blues to a new level in this album! Nice foot drum! This record is a quality presentation of Deicide's art. Nice;) The sound quality is def a A+ as well. Vinyl definatley does this album justice. Deicide creates his own style of dark blues that anyone can appreciate. The lyrics and musical notes create a vivid picture of Deicide's stories. I really like "Devil Woman Blues" and "Throwing It All Away." This music kind of strikes me as punk rock blues. Traditional with raw vocals. Not to mention Deicide rocks on the guitar! This album is unique and awesome. True art I would say. Deicide is putting it out there and doing a great job:) I like his style. Get your record here:

Dirt on your Hands" by Jared Tyler Review, Release date June 2, 2017

If you like Norah Jones or Ben Harper this album is right up your alley. I freakin love this album! This one made it to my iTunes library! Congratulations! This album is very upbeat with positive vibes oozing out of every song. This is the kind of music accepting to all, kind of like gospel but country. This is real country music, not polished like mainstream country. Jared Tyler talks about country stuff in these songs but its a more sensitive side of the beauty only derived from the country. This album will put you in a good mood for sure. I recommend everyone check this one out. I love the cover art as well, stellar! Some of my favorite songs on this album are Dirt on your hands, Heart open wide, Gwendolyn, Lucky I am and Fort Gibson Lake. Check out Jared's website here http://jaredtyler.com/ for album release party details! Release date June 2, 2017!

Review for Red Sammy & Some Charming Trespassers "True Believer" and Red Sammy "Creeps & Cheaters"

Hi Folks! Today I am writing about a Baltimore Maryland artist named Red Sammy. I will first talk about his album "True Believer." This album is a very chill mellow folky album. I really like the song "Heaven the electric sky." I really feel that this album portrays a heart felt sincere vibe. I can honestly say this is a beautiful acoustic album with a mixture of bluegrass. I really love the artwork on the cover of this album. The "Creeps and Cheaters" album is a full band album that resembles kind of a psychedelic grunge kind of sound which I totally love. Think 90's, swamp, bayou, Louisiana. Great album. Kind of puts things in perspective for the listener. I really love the song "I got creepy when Lou Reed died." For info, tour dates and music please check out Red Sammy's website here www.redsammy.com.

Sarah Petite's Road Less Traveled Album Review

Sara Petite's album "Road Less Traveled" has been the soundtrack for my life the past 3 days. I really love this whole album, so much that it is going into my personal music collection. Not everyone makes it there! "Good to B Me," the lyrics touched me."Be true to your heart, be true to your soul" no one writes music like this anymore. It is a dying art to be truthful and passionate thru music and be able to portray it in a simple sense so everyone understands. Another strong song on this album is "I will Rise." Anyone who has ever been low can relate to this song. "Like a Phoenix, I will rise." I think at one point in life we all rise like a Phoenix. Beautiful song. I think my favorite song on this album is "Sweet Pea Patch" because of the 6 mininute jam. The musicians in this song nail this jam. It's a chill train driving jam that will def put you in the groove, lead guitar, organ, dobro, electric guitar, bass (holding it down!) drums and more. The lyrics are great too! It is a summer song about skinny dipping in the country by a sweet pea patch. This is a country album but I think all music lovers will like this one. I give the recording quality a A+. Thanks for sending me this KG music press. Y'all done did good on this one;) Get your copy here www.sarapetite.com.

Dan Cunningham's "Appalachian Song" Album

Wow what a great album! I love it! Some adjectives used to describe Cunningham's music are traditional roots, animated, Americana, backwoods acoustic blues and fervor of an old-time tent meeting. All of which are right on point. "Appalachian Song" presents the authentic WV vibe to the listener, truly roots and folky. "I Aint No Pretty Boy No More" stood out to myself as listener because of the roots style picking guitar and smooth vocals. A song mostly everyone can or will be able to relate to. Cunningham really has a beautiful voice."Angel Band" a traditional tune could not be more perfected than on this album here. Cunningham also does a stellar version of "West Virginia, My Home" by Hazel Dickens. WV is definitely my second home. I knew when I first saw this album that it was going to be awesome just by the name "Appalachian Song." Cunningham's music is preservation and reflection of Appalachian Music, one of my favorite genres of music. The recording and production are superb as well. Thanks for sending this Dan! Please check out Dan Cunningham's website here http://www.pickndawg.com to purchase his album and check out other fun stuff like "Odd Places in West Virginia."

Howie Newman's "When You're Happy" Album Review

This album is funny! Howie has a great voice and great music. All the musicians on this album are great. Howie's voice and music reminds me of Simon & Garfunkel a little bit. Very folky. These songs will literally make you laugh out loud. My favorite one is "Where is Everybody?" A song about promoters at coffee shops excuse's of why people aren't at the shows. Thats a freakin classic! I def know how that goes for sure! I love music that is upbeat and make the listener smile. Howie you def do that and thanks for brightening up my day:) Check out Howie's site here http://www.howienewman.com

Georgia The Girl EP Review

Wow I like this! If you like Amy Winehouse you will really love Georgia & The Vintage Youth. The first track "The Girl" has a motown vibe to it, the second track "Ireland" is ska, the third and fourth tracks "My Guy and I" and "Remember Brick Lane" slow down to a R&B groove. Great new talent! Great voice! Please visit Georgia & The Vintage Youth's website to hear for yourself. I def recommend it.

Michael Gurge's "Faceless Names"

I met Michael at Hempfest 2016 last year. He later sent me this song he and a past group recorded. This song is a modern day protest song. These guys are analog tape die-hards, which you can totally hear in this recording. This song reminds me of rock from the 60s and 70s, speaking of the political troubles of our times with a psychedelic spin. Great song!

Review of Leo Harmonay's album "The Blink of an Eye"

Great album! Love the hand written note. This album is a folk jammy album. Lots of Jammin. I really like the roots sound of this album. Sounds like it was recorded in the 60s which is a good thing! The back up vocals and the hand drums give it that roots feel. Please check this album out at Leo's website here!

Review for Joe Goodkin's "Record of Loss" EP Release date February 10, 2017

I did not know what to think when I first received this EP. The press release had a quote by Anhedonic Headphones saying "Every time I've listened to Record of Life, I've started to cry." And I was like great another depressing album. But with Joe's "Record of Loss" that is not the case.

In this EP Joe sings about depressing situations but puts a positive spin on them. Good job Joe! Joe sounds like a good friend to have. Joe has very likable vocals that make the listener pay attention to the lyrics. The lyrics are great because they talk about real life situations, things people can relate to. In the press release there is talk about a possibility of this album being released on vinyl. I love vinyl records so my approach on that is GO FOR IT!!!! The production and sound quality of this EP is superb, so pressing it to vinyl would just make the song and EP quality as great as it could possibly get. Speaking of sound quality, besides Joe's voice the only instrument he uses in this EP is a 1963 Gibson ES-125T guitar. In some songs he uses up to 8 guitar tracks. Joe also plays with a unusual tuning of DADGAD. That's AWESOME! This album has a very mellow chill vibe with a very uplifting style. "Record of Loss" gives the listener hope. Great album Joe! This album will be released 2/10/17

For more details about the EP release party and purchasing the album please visit http://www.joegoodkin.com.
